Resting Heart Rate Affected By Vegan Diet

These screenshots were taken from my Fitbit app three days ago. I had not looked at my data for a while and I was shocked to see how such a huge change was seen in a few days. My heart rate has always been high but since a kid I ate yoghurt and cheese almost every day.

Here is what it looked like just before I changed my diet:

It changed from day to day but very rarely went below 80. The next screenshot shows it beginning to lower after switching completely to a vegan diet:

I do not recall the exact day I stopped eating milk and eggs and made the switch but it was late February. My resting heart rate has gone down!

As a vegetarian I feel like I ate more cheese, eggs and milk products to compensate for the meat I was not eating. My views have changed so much since then after being exposed to what humankind are conditioned to think. I was a vegetarian because I did not want any animals to be killed just so I could eat them. I had no idea that by consuming milk and eggs that I was contributing to the death and awful mistreatment of many animals. The dairy and egg industries are cruel. I thought leather was just a by product of cows. A huge amount of leather is produced in other countries where the conditions are atrocious. I read somewhere on line that China was even using dog skin to produce leather. Many people who eat meat would think this is wrong so why do they think that it is OK from a cow? It’s because we have been conditioned to think that it is normal. That animals are here for our purpose. This is so wrong in my opinion.

Let me get back to my point! So here are two more screenshots of my resting heart and the lowest it has been so far (67):

It is incredible. I am assuming it is the lack of fat and cholesterol in my blood that is allowing my heart to pump slower. I have not found out much about the technicalities but if you have any ideas please comment below.

Disclaimer: These are just my results and not an actual scientific study. I have the Fitbit Charge HR which takes a reading from my wrist so will not be as accurate as a chest strap.

  1. Thanks for this post! I believe in everything that you are saying…. we have been so brainwashed for way too long, it’s atrocious!! Horrific! I hate it, I wish everyone would just go vegan right now. The pain and suffering of our dear animal friends is so painful to know that that is going on, and then to have some of my family members still drinking cow’s milk makes me very sad! And to know that their 9 year old son is being harmed right now by eating/drinking dairy is sickening! Thank you for sharing this, I know that my blood test results have gotten better and better! 🙂

    1. That’s awesome! My blood pressure is perfect! I am going for some blood tests as part of a check up so it will be interesting to find out what I get. I feel the best I’ve ever felt though so I’d be surprised if they weren’t good. It is so horrible but I just have to keep reminding myself that I am on the right side and everyday people are being educated and becoming more aware and choosing to be vegan. 😊

  2. before i went vegan in high school, my resting bpm was in the 90s, and i remember because i was so embarrassed that it was high because i was (and still am) obese, so those things are just embarassing. now as a vegan, it’s consistently in the 60s, and even when i’ve been standing it’s only in the 70s, maybe 80s if i’ve been walking around. i really do think it’s because i changed my diet that my heart works more efficiently now

  3. I went vegan 5 months back and have seen the same change in my resting heart rate. I was always in the high 70’s it is now in the low 50’s with 49 being the lowest I’ve seen. I feel much better since turning vegan, I highly recommend it.

  4. My heart rate has always been quite high. My resting heart rate was generally in the mid to high 70’s. The only time it dropped into the high 60’s was during a time when I was doing a LOT of cardio. In recent years though, with some minor injuries, weight gain and joint pain leading to little or no exercise, my resting heart rate has increased again. I decided enough is enough. I went 100% plant based/WFPB 4 weeks ago. This week, I was checking through my Fitbit app and found the same scenario as you. My resting heart rate, without doing anything more than a gentle walk most days, has dropped from 75 bpm to 65-68 bpm. I am so thrilled about this! It’s a wonderful non-scale victory for me. It blows my mind to think of how much better my heart must be without all the meat and dairy products clogging it up! This is definitely the point of no return for me. My body is happy and so am I! Can’t wait to see what my body heals next through eating plants 🌱💚

  5. same has happened to me. had a recent heart check up. and they saud my heart beat was 55 BPM. i have been plant based. smabout 3 years now. i see now.. that im not alone. i was worried it was abnormal. be ause thats the words used on my results. i was worried it would stop in my sleep. guessing this is the norm. wen ur heart not over working to break up the meats and bad foods ? so its peaceful ?
